MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT

THE PROJECT

a virtual history

The 800th anniversary of the city will be celebrated in the year 2007. The Workers Educational Association project 2007 outlined here would therefore have a life history of eight years. It is seen as a major project involving all sectors of the city and having international and multimedia applications. Whilst drawing on established histories, encouragement will particularly be given to those who wish to tell their own stories. The Web medium is to promote accessibility world-wide.

" ......In the past 'the great and the good' kept diaries, wrote letters, had their speeches printed so that their views and experiences were readily available. Working people did not, except in rare instances, keep diaries, write letters or make speeches....they were too busy keeping body and soul together....." Eric Taplin, Historian
